About me

I’m Karel Overlaet, founder of Medianaut, embarked on a maritime journey in 2003, establishing the pioneering nautical news and photography brand in Belgium.

From a young age, my passion for photography was ignited, a flame passed down through generations from my grandfather and father.

At the age of 21, I embraced my artistic vision with my inaugural NIKON camera, a faithful companion that remains by my side to this day.

As my collection of NIKON gear grew over the years, it witnessed the captivating era of analog photography, accompanying me to every corner of the globe.

With the advent of the internet, my passion found a new outlet—I began crafting online newsletters, delving into the captivating world of boats and water sports.

Simultaneously, my proficiency in web development blossomed, leading to a myriad of projects for various companies.

The fusion of digital photography and journalistic prowess opened the door to unparalleled experiences, allowing me to explore breathtaking locales worldwide.

Today, I contribute my writing and photography skills to renowned nautical magazines, with a particular focus on powerboats and RIBs (Rigid Inflatable Boats).

Managing a constellation of Facebook pages and groups, my online presence revolves primarily around the shared passion for boating—an ever-growing community where enthusiasts gather to celebrate the allure of the open water.
